A 35 year veteran music educator, Steven Hendricks is currently the Director of Bands at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Prior to this appointment he taught at Davis High School, BYU-Idaho, and Kaysville Junior High. He loves sharing what he has learned throughout his career with music educators and their students, and is now in demand across the country as a conductor, clinician, and adjudicator.

Steven was recognized with the “Superior Accomplishment” award and the “Outstanding High School Music Educator” award from the Utah Music Educators Association.  He received eight citations of excellence for concert band, jazz band, and marching band from the National Band Association, and in 2015 his band program was selected as the western division NBA Blue Ribbon Award Winner.  In 2014 he received the Utah High School Activities Association’s “Music Educator of the Year” award. He was featured in the 2013 “50 Educators Who Make a Difference issue of School Band and Orchestra Magazine. In 2017 Steven was named Davis School District Teacher of the Year and was the first runner up for Utah State Board of Education Teacher of the Year. He is also a recipient of the Sorenson Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education and the Jon M. Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education. In 2021 he was inducted into the Utah Music Educators Association Hall of Fame.

Scott Newman is a former Davis High School band student (1996) who was inspired to get involved in a community band after participating in Steven Hendrick’s reunion band in 2018. Scott, a life-long Davis County resident, understands that the passion and support for music in the community does not start and end at the grade-school level. Scott believes that every community should be involved in the arts, and community bands are a great way to keep people involved in music. Scott is living proof that you don’t need to dedicate your entire life to music to participate in it. Scott abandoned his Baritone when he graduated in 1996. He went on to graduate with a B.S in Telecommunications Adm. from Weber State, and recently earned his M.B.A. in IT management from Western Governors University. Scott is looking forward to getting familiar with his baritone and the band once again and is excited to play along with all of you.

Jacob Albretsen planned on playing the clarinet when he signed up for Beginning Woodwinds at Kaysville Junior High, but then was mistakenly added to Beginning Brass. Inspired by the best first officer in Starfleet, he decided to choose to play the trombone instead. Jacob continued to play into high school at Davis High (1994) where he participated in the marching, concert, pep, and his favorite, jazz band. Jacob then attended Weber State University where he participated in several university bands until graduating with a B.S in Physics / Applied Physics (1999). He continued on into graduate school where he earned a M.S. in Physics (2002) and was working toward a PhD (all but dissertation), however chose to change career directions. Jacob currently works as a Site Reliability Engineer at Myriad Genetics and is also an Adjunct Physics Instructor at Weber State University. He enjoys doing volunteer work not only with the Harmonic Winds of Utah, but also FanX. Jacob and his wife Brooke are parents of two wonderful children who love to explore their own interests and talents, including bowling, skateboarding, writing and music.

Lora is the acting Treasurer for the Harmonic Winds of Utah.  In addition, she currently serves as President of International Plant and Herbal Alliance (a Utah 501(c)3), and has served on other boards in the position of treasurer.  Lora graduated from Bountiful High School in 1988 after playing in both symphonic and marching band.  She has been playing with a Davis County flute choir called Flautissimo for over 15 years.  She has a passion for music, volunteering, and numbers!  Professionally, Lora has been a controller for several real estate development companies in Utah over the past 30 years.  She graduated from Weber State University in 1992 with a BS in Accounting, and is currently working as an accountant out of her home office in Layton, UT.  She was a Kaysville resident for over 25 years.  Lora is a mother of four tall and very talented adults who all attended Davis High School.  She enjoys playing the flute, reading, camping and walking her dog.

Ariane got her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, and her Master’s degree in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Utah. She has taught high school band and has conducted musicals for the local high schools for the last 20 years. Now Ariane is loving being a stay at home mom with four wonderful kids.

Melissa Hansen volunteers her time as Vice-President of the Golden Years band and plays her soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones with the band. Her favorite is the alto. The band plays at various assisted living homes in Davis County every Friday. Some of her responsibilities to the band are leading the band and audience in absence of the band president at performances, seating arrangements, and monthly music selection. When Melissa is not playing her saxophone, reading books, or sewing she is the Co-Founder and Executive Director for Continue Mission (CM); a nonprofit organization serving Veterans with physical, mental, and emotional injuries. Through CM, she organizes and runs recreational and educational events for Veterans including skiing, pickleball, cycling, paddleboarding, hiking, nature walks, multi day adventures, and more. Melissa takes part in the Davis HELPS suicide prevention coalition and is a NAMI Homefront instructor. She is also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She ended her career as a Chemical Engineer to take on the challenge of helping her husband, Josh, through his healing process when he returned home from Iraq with injuries in 2007. Together, they founded Continue Mission in 2014. Melissa and Josh have two daughters, one son, and two grandsons.

Annie Purser is a lover of all things creative. Music, art, graphic design, web design, you name it. Annie played the French Horn in the Davis High Band, Snow College Wind Ensemble, and is currently a member of the Skyward Symphony, another community Orchestra. After seeing first-hand how amazing the community music group experience was, she knew she had to get involved to make the dream of this band a reality. More than anything, she wants to help others like her realize that graduating high school or college doesn’t have to be the last opportunity to make music and perform with other talented musicians.   When she’s not in her creative zone, Annie uses her Bachelor’s in Global Communication (Not art or web design!) to manage a team of telephone operators that answer all calls for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She enjoys Pickleball, Paddleboarding, running an Etsy Business, Disney, and most of all, spoiling her sweet puppy Shadow.
